Placement Exams

ACT/SAT scores are not required for admission. However, students will still need to place into math and English course. Students have the option of taking the ACT/SAT or taking a placement exam for these courses. If a student opts to not take the ACT/SAT or placement exam, they risk being placed into a math and/or English course that may not be challenging enough for them.

Math Placement

  • Students who have taken the ACT/SAT within the last two years may be placed into an appropriate MATH course based on their Math ACT/SAT score.
  • Students who do not have a recent ACT/SAT score or who are not satisfied with their placement via ACT/SAT have the option to take the ALEKS math placement test to identify an appropriate mathematics course.
    • Included as part of the one-time charge, ALEKS provides level-specific review problems along with additional retakes that may help students score and place higher than their first attempt.
  • Students who do not have a recent ACT/SAT or ALEKS score may enroll in either MATH 0950 or MATH 0970.

English Placement

  • Students who have taken the ACT/SAT will be placed into an appropriate English course based on their ACT/SAT score.
  • Students who have not taken the ACT/SAT may take the ACCUPLACER placement test.
  • Students who don't take the ACT/SAT or the ACCUPLACER placement test will be placed into ENGL 1010E (5 credits).
    • Challenge option (online or in-person) via the Testing Center for students who place into 1010E via ACT/SAT or ACCUPLACER scores, but who feel they do not need extra writing support. It is not a guarantee of placing into a ENGL 1010 (3 credits), but it is an option if a student is unhappy with their initial placement (NOTE: this is NOT an option for students with no ACT/SAT or ACCUPLACER scores).
