NCATE Accreditation Visit
Information Required for Course Syllabus

A critical piece of evidence required by the Board of Examiners is a syllabus for every course in initial and advanced educator preparation programs. As specified by NCATE, the syllabus must include the information listed below in the following order: A Model Syllabus is provided for your reference.

  1. Course Prefix, Number, Title, and Number of Credits
  2. Course Instructor (must include name, office number, telephone number, and email address)
  3. Office Hours
  4. Course Description (must be consistent with University catalogs)
  5. Targeted Standards (for courses in the undergraduate professional education program, the Standards for Beginning Teachers (INTASC, etc.) must be listed; for courses in advanced educator preparation programs, the targeted standards for Advanced Professionals (NBPTS, etc.) or specialty area standards must be listed)
  6. Course Objectives (specific learning outcomes for students that are aligned with targeted standards)
  7. Course Content (brief outline of content covered in the class; must be aligned with targeted standards and course objectives)
  8. Course Text/Readings (provide full bibliographic information)
  9. Course Requirements/Assessments (required assignments, projects, field experiences, etc. and methods of assessing student performance relative to the course objectives)
  10. Grading Criteria and Grading Scale (how grades will be assigned)
  11. Reasonable Accommodation for Students with Disabilities Statement
  12. Course Schedule (topics listed in course schedule must align with targeted standards, course objectives, course content, and assessments)
  13. Copy of Professional Education Unit Conceptual Framework and Standards
