Dr. Emily Dean of the Department of History, Sociology, and Anthropology at Southern Utah University has been awarded funding by the Colorado Plateau Cooperative Ecosystems Studies Unit (CPCESU) in the amount of $29,500.
The purpose of the "Bryce Canyon - Under The Rim Archaeology" Program is to identify, document, and evaluate archeological sites to be eligible for listing on the National Register for Historic Places. The combined research efforts of Southern Utah University students and National Park Service staff provides a comprehensive understanding of human use patterns and the distribution of archeological sites in designated portions of Bryce Canyon National Park. Through this process of research, students and NPS staffs have the opportunity to train and improve their skills in process identification, documentation, and evaluation of these various archeological sites under study.
