General Summary: The student assistant will help run the Convocation’s website and social media (Twitter and Facebook).  Direct responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assist the director as needed, create Word documents, greet patrons at the Convocations and provide a high level of customer service to all constituents. Position requires a flexible work schedule and the ability to work nights, on occasion.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provide support for events.
    1. Attend meetings with Convocations staff/class to review the schedule of events.
    2. Generate event signage when needed.
    3. Check set ups prior to events to ensure that proper equipment is set up and that space has a professional appearance.
    4. Be responsive to patron needs in a prompt and courteous manner.
    5. Be visible and available during events.
    6. Frequently tour the facility to assess levels of customer service, cleanliness, and adherence to policies.
    7. Act as a resource for patrons and speakers onsite.
    8. Maintain communication with director and staff throughout the event.
    9. Report any changes in set up, additional requests, concerns and compliments to director throughout the event.
  2. Be an active staff member of Convocations.
    1. Provide regular information/feedback to supervisor and staff by utilizing reports as directed.
    2. Check for any notices and email at the start of each shift, following up as needed or requested.
    3. Attend mandatory staff meetings and events.
  3. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Convocations.
Number of Openings 1
Salary/Wage $8.00 per hour
Work Hours Up to 15 hours per week during the academic year.
Qualifications

Education, Training and Skills

  1. Strong customer service skills including the ability to effectively solve problems and handle conflict.
  2. Proficient in email and Microsoft Office including Word and Excel.

Experience

  1. Experience with social media and knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  2. Knowledge of event management.
  3. Dependable, punctual and responsible.
  4. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  5. Flexibility in schedule.

Campus community including students, faculty, staff and alumni along with general public.

Working Conditions
Position requires the ability to stand or sit for long periods of time, to be on time for work for all scheduled shifts, to work in a shared space. Position requires that staff member be flexible, adaptable and readily able to adjust to changes in work environment.

Supervision or Direction Exercised
May supervise other student staff (with direction from full-time staff) when appropriate.
