Description The News Director fulfills the programming function in news and public affairs and oversees the operation of the news department and other public affairs programming and coordinates directly with the Program Director in determining scheduling of newscasts and other news and public affairs programming. He/she is responsible for guiding the training of all personnel within the department, auditing and selecting newscasters, improving news writing skills, developing format and requirements of newscasts, and regular monitoring of news activities through air checks, training and critique sessions. In addition, the News Director is responsible for continually developing new contacts for news information, maintaining local (and regional, where feasible) news-beat assignments for personnel, providing equipment for newscasters to enhance their news reporting, and developing ideas for covering areas of news interest. In addition, the News Director is responsible for keeping accurate updated files, concerning issues of local interest or controversy and any news or public affairs programming that has been aired in relation to those issues.

Work Hours 20 hours per week
Qualifications Experience with radio consoles, Adobe Audition Editing software, and recording equipment. Broadcast writing skills. Teaching abilities.
