The past year has created much energy and discussion over health care and the Obama Health Care Bill that was passed last spring. Michael O. Leavitt, former Utah Governor and Secretary of Health and Human Services, understands this topic inside and out and will return to SUU to speak on health care this Friday, November 5, at noon in the Auditorium. The campus community and the public are invited and encouraged to attend. Leavitt is a distinguished alumnus of SUU where he graduated in economics. He subsequently chaired the Board of Trustees at SUU and then served on the State Board of Regents. His service for nearly 11 years as governor is the second longest tenure of any of Utah’s governors, having been elected three times before being tapped to serve on the President’s cabinet. The University’s Center for Politics and Public Service was named in honor of Michael O. Leavitt in 2006. His impressive leadership to his state and nation provides an example of how one person can make a vital difference in his or her service. Governor Leavitt donated his official papers and documents to Southern Utah University and are housed in a special collection in the Sherratt Library.
