The Office of Regional Services is pleased to have provided guidance for SUU's Outdoor Initiative (OI) from 2008 through 2010. In this capacity, the office served as the designated contact, clearinghouse and coordinator for the OI as well as both maintained and oversaw the implementation of the OI Action Plan.
As outlined in the OI Action Plan, Southern Utah University will be renowned for innovative learning experiences within our unique natural environment, providing world-class opportunities for outdoor education and recreation, and cultivating a life-long curiosity and appreciation for the land.

In support of the OI Vision and Action Plan, Regional Services manages the Outdoor Initiative Fund. Programs, projects and activities across the University have benefitted from this funding. An inventory of the University’s numerous OI-related academic and recreation activities and programs, community partnerships and services, and campus facilities can be found here. Many of these endeavors have received support from the OI Fund.
The OI Fund Application Form contains all the information for applying for OI funds to help support your SUU outdoor activity. Funding for the current academic year (2011/12) is extremely limited, and potential applicants are encouraged to contact Brian Cottam at the contact info below in advance of submitting a funding proposal. For more ideas about what types of programs and projects the OI Fund can assist, check out this list of all the activities supported by the OI Fund.

With the planning throughout 2011 and subsequent creation of the University's new Harry Reid Center for Outdoor Engagement in August 2011, the formal activities of the Outdoor Initiative ceased within the Office of Regional Services; however, limited OI Fund support still exists.
