Utah Prairie Dog Recovery Implementation Program Coordinator
Bill’s job is to coordinate actions taken by private and public entities aimed at recovering populations of the Utah Prairie Dog while allowing existing land uses and development growth to continue. The position is supported by SUU and housed in Regional Services. The principle partners include federal, state, and local agencies, research institutions, and municipalities.
After retiring from a 32-year career with the US Forest Service (Mt. Shasta, Ca., Libby, Mt., Weaverville, Ca.), Bill taught resource management classes at Shasta College in Redding Ca. His education included stops at Humboldt State University and UC Berkeley, and he is a Registered Professional Forester and Fellow in the Society of American Foresters. His career has included managing emergency incidents (wildfires, hurricanes, insect outbreaks) throughout the West, prescribing treatments for forested lands, and supervising planning teams who prepared major forest management projects.
Bill was born in New Mexico, educated in California, worked on projects throughout the West, and traveled extensively across Europe, Asia, South America, and Australia. He is grandfather to families living in the SF Bay area and joined SUU in April 2012.
