Festival's 2012 Season To Top All Others
With great anticipation for a 2012 program packed with theatrical blockbusters, the Utah Shakespeare Festival opened its summer season this past month.
According to artistic directors Brian Vaughn ('95) and David Ivers, the Festival's 51st season presents some of the most challenging and potentially the most rewarding productions in the history of the Utah Shakespeare Festival.
A great deal of buzz surrounding the forthcoming season is a building excitement for the Festival's first ever production of Les Misérables, one of the world's most popular shows and Broadway's third longest running musical. The production has been met with so much enthusiasm, in fact, that the Festival will run "Les Misérables" through the fall as well as summer seasons. In fact, many performances have already sold out.
The summer season's remaining line-up is no less impressive:
The Merry Wives of Windsor
Titus Andronicus
Mary Stuart
To Kill a Mockingbird
Scapin
Tickets are available at www.bard.org or by calling 1-800-PLAYTIX (800-752-9849). Did you know that your Alumni Card provides you a discount to Monday-Thursday evening performances in the Randall L. Jones Theatre? And when you visit the Utah Shakespeare Festival, be sure and stop by the Alumni House and say "hello."

National Champion!
Southern Utah University picked up its first individual NCAA national title in track & field on June 7, when Cameron Levins blazed to a first-place time of 28:07.14 in the men's 10,000-meters. Levins earned the title by running his final lap in 58.1 seconds.
Levins entered the race with the second-fastest time in NCAA history, running 27:27.96 earlier in the year. True to form, Levins remained with the leaders from start to finish.

Two days later, SUU picked up its second NCAA national title when Cameron kicked the competition over the final 150-meters to finish first in the men's 5k at the NCAA National Track and Field Championships.
The strategy for the 5k appeared to be different from that of the 10k, where Cameron stayed among the leaders throughout the race. SUU's championship runner showed patience in the 5k, lurking among the last five to six runners with a pace between 65 to 67 seconds per lap, allowing Levins to bide his time.

The entire Southern Utah community is now counting the days to the Olympic Summer Games in London where Cameron will be competing for Canada. Be sure and tune in and cheer on on one very exceptional Thunderbird.
Also, take a second and Vote for Cameron! He is a finalist for the 2012 Bowerman Award, the highest honor given to NCAA Track & Field athletes.
