47 Years Of Giving By First Security Foundation
Last December, SUU received a check for $4,300 from First Security Foundation, marking 47 years of consistent giving of scholarship and library support.
This recent donation will fund two $2,000 scholarships for students seeking a degree in business or a business-related field. Recipients are chosen on the basis of merit and need.
Three hundred dollars is earmarked for the Sherratt Library to purchase materials which would be beneficial to business students.
"First Security Foundation is proud of its tradition, dating back to the 1950s, of providing financial assistance to deserving students," stated Spencer Eccles, First Security Foundation chairman, in a recent letter to the University.
"Southern Utah University has benefited greatly from this long-term commitment and we are very fortunate to have this support," Marsha Lundgren, SUU's director of corporate and foundation support, says. "Nearly a hundred students have received First Security Foundation scholarships, and hundreds of business books have been bought over the years.
"I recently spoke with a local man who graduated from our school in 1976," Lundgren continues. "He has had a very successful career in the banking industry for 25 years. He proudly stated that he was a past recipient of a First Security Foundation Scholarship."
With this recent donation, First Security Foundation has contributed $19,500 toward the scholarship goal of the capital campaign.
