Alumni Chapters Organized in Diverse Areas
Over the past several months the Alumni Office has been actively engaged
in organizing Alumni Chapters in several areas. These efforts are being
rewarded with associations and reunions that are fantastic.
We always knew we had supportive Alumni who were ambassadors of good will
for dear old SUU, but as we have traveled to Salt Lake, Las Vegas and
Phoenix we have been delighted at the level of loyalty we have met.
On November 22nd, at the Huntsman Center on the campus of the University
of Utah the Salt Lake Chapter of the Alumni Association hosted a pre-game
get together. Laura Albiston (Õ98 political science) chaired the event
with the assistance of Mechelle Mellor, (Õ94 physical education) Darin
Marshall, (Õ96 business) and Jessica Christopher (Õ98 political science
& German). Many loyal SUU Alumni and friends attended and had a wonderful
time.
Coach Bill Evans (Õ73 physical education) was on hand to speak to the
group just prior to tip-off. President Bennion was also present and welcomed
all in attendance. Mr. Bill Marcroft, the former voice of Utah sports
dropped by for a friendly visit as did Lori Rupp (Ô79 physical education)
the U of U's drill team coach. As a dedicated and loyal graduate from
SUU she graciously volunteered her service to our Salt Lake Chapter.
Just prior to the Salt Lake event Mark Barton and Marlo Jensen visited
the Phoenix area and met with several graduates of SUU who were very enthusiastic
about forming an organization in that area. "With nearly 150 alums
there and with the enthusiasm exhibited we are convinced that an Alumni
Chapter would perform a great service for the University in the Valley
of the Sun," said Marlo Jensen, Director of Alumni Relations.
"We have discovered alums who, because of the positive experience
they had at SUU, are anxious to be reconnected to their fellow alums and
friends, and to be associated with enhancing the experience for the future."
added Mark Barton, Vice President for Advancement and Regional Services."
