SUU In View (Alumni Magazine)
For the second year in a row an SUU student has received an invitation to intern with the Joint Economic Committee of Congress in Washington, DC. After graduation Lucia Olivera (’03 MIS), began an internship at the JEC, a think tank for Congress. She performed so well that she now has been hired on a full time permanent basis. Dr. David Tufte, associate professor of economics indicated that last year Cassee Hansen (’02 Accounting), did such a good job at the JEC that they were willing to hire another of our super students this year. He says, “I specifically mentioned in my recommendation letter that Lucia would work out as well as Cassee did, and in a competitive hiring environment that tells me that they were pleased with our graduates in D.C.” Until last year these positions were traditionally filled by Ivy League institutions such as Harvard, Yale and the like.
