As we head into the home stretch for the 2007-08 academic year, you will find our spring schedule is filled with an extraordinary mix of performing and visual arts programs. I hope you will be able to join us. It is hard to believe that graduation is just around the corner and over 70 of our students will be headed off to new opportunities and challenges.
Plans are already underway for next year, which will mark the 10th Anniversary since the founding of the College of Performing and Visual Arts. Look for many exciting and interesting celebratory events as CPVA turns 10 in 2008-09.
As this year has progressed, there have been many milestones to celebrate. As you will see in this issue of CPVA Arts News, our students, alumni, faculty, and staff continue to reach new heights. One example of our quality faculty may be seen in the naming of Dr. Virginia Stitt as Utah Music Educator of the Year. Another highlight of our faculty’s accomplishments can be seen in the upcoming Broadway production of Lend Me a Tenor – The Musical. The collaborative effort of theatre faculty member Peter Sham, and adjunct theatre faculty member Brad Carroll is scheduled for its Broadway debut in 2009. Our Eccles Visiting Scholar, Susan Hadley from Ohio State University, had a busy week while she was here in late January. Professor Hadley did many things during her visit, including creation of the choreography of an original work that will be performed in the Faculty Dance Concert, March 5th to 8th.
Another one to this year’s big successes has been our new music series, Bon Appétit, which includes a wonderful dinner and concert in the home of one of our generous supporters of our music department. Thanks to the generosity of members of our community we have been able to raise nearly $10,000 in scholarship funds for our students. There is only one more concert left in this year and a call to Professor Carol Ann Modesitt (435-586-8166) ensures a space for you today at the next concert.
