2007 Players of the Week
CHESTER WILSON NAMED MID-CON CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK
CEDAR CITY, Utah – April 30 – Southern Utah third baseman Chester Wilson was named the Mid-Con Co-Player of the Week after his performance in the Thunderbirds’ four-game sweep of the Oakland Golden Grizzlies over the weekend.
The award is the first for Wilson during his career and only the second time a Thunderbird has garnered a weekly conference award this season.
Wilson was one of the reasons the Thunderbirds swept the Oakland Golden Grizzlies and captured their first series win of the year. The sophomore from Hawaii totaled 11 RBI, three home runs and four doubles along with ten hits during the four game series. Wilson was also clutch with runners in scoring position, batting .500 (4 for 8) over the course of the weekend.
Southern Utah will continue the Mid-Con season as the Thunderbirds travel to Shreveport, La. for a road contest with the Gents of Centenary this weekend.
MAC NELSON NAMED MID-CON CO-PITCHER OF THE WEEK
CEDAR CITY, Utah – April 10 – Southern Utah junior Mac Nelson was named Mid-Con Co-Pitcher of the Week for the week ending April 9. The award is the first for Nelson as a Thunderbird and first award for the baseball team this year.
Nelson recorded the first complete game for a Thunderbird this year and helped Southern Utah to a 4-1 win over Western Illinois. Nelson started every game for SUU during the series with appearances at second base in games one, three and four and the start on the mound in game two. At the plate, Nelson was third on the team in batting average (.417), including a homerun, double and an RBI.
The season continues for the Thunderbirds today with a doubleheader against UVSC, the first pitch scheduled for 4:00 p.m. |
