2008 GENERAL RELEASES

PRESIDENT BENSON ANNOUNCES NEW BASEBALL FACILITY

CEDAR CITY, Utah – Oct. 3 – Southern Utah President Michael T. Benson touched on plans of a new baseball facility during his inauguration address during the final week of September.  The baseball facility currently shares space with the women’s soccer pitch, but in the proposal each team would have its own dedicated facility.

"A new stadium for our baseball program is huge,” head coach David Eldredge said of the proposed plan.  “First and foremost, it shows a strong commitment from the university to our program.  I am extremely grateful for the vision of President Bensen, and athletic director, Ken Beazer, as well as for their support, and effort to bring this project to fruition.”

Fundraising for the new facility has already begun with the project beginning as early as the spring of 2008.

“This will put us on a much more level playing field in respect to our competition,” Eldredge continued.  “It should also assist us in recruiting and hopefully help our program become a viable competitor at the national level.  Finally, I'm thrilled that our university and community will soon have a beautiful venue to enjoy this wonderful game of baseball."

The baseball season will begin when the Thunderbirds face Central Michigan on February 22 in Moapa Valley, Nev.
