Coach Chris Shipman
Running Backs

Coach Chris ShipmanChris Shipman is in his third year on the SUU staff following a stellar career as a Thunderbird offensive lineman.

Shipman began his coaching career working with the Thunderbird offensive line but moved to running backs coach last season. He will continue to work with the running backs this year.

Last year Shipman helped SUU tailback Johnny Sanchez earn second-team all-GWFC recognition and the Thunderbirds averaged 141.8 rushing yards per game, their highest average since 2002.

Coach Shipman was a four-year letterman who started 27 games at guard for the Thunderbirds, including all 11 in 2004 and all 11 in 2002. He also began the 2003 campaign as a starter, but injuries interrupted his season.

A native of Salt Lake City, Coach Shipman is a graduate of Cottonwood High School.

Coach Shipman is single and resides in Cedar City. He is currently working on completing a masters degree in education.
