Thunderbirds Sign Two For 2007 Season

Southern Utah University has signed two gymnasts to National Letters of Intent for the 2007-08 academic year, SUU head gymnastics coach Scott Bauman has announced. Signing to join the Thunderbirds next fall were Jenna Vogt from Egan, Minn., and Shannon Coughlin, from Anchorage, Alaska.

Vogt competed for coach Bryan Hough at TAGS Gymnastics. A 3-time national qualifier she has two top-30 national all-around finishes on her resume. In 2006, at the Level 10 National championships, she placed 27th in the all-around, 11th on uneven bars and 14th on floor exercise. She also placed 27th in the all-around at the 2005 Level 10 Nationals.

Coughlin, who competed for coach Dan Alch, at Arctic Gymnastics Center in Anchorage, Alaska, finished second on beam at her 2006 Level 10 regional meet and finished third in the all-around that year with a score of 37.65.  In 2005 she was the Level 10 region vault champion and finished second in the all-around.

“We’re tremendously excited to sign these two athletes,” Bauman said. “We think both have the potential to come in and contribute to our team right away.”
