Tate Sorenson#23 Tate SorensonTate Sorenson
F, 6-7, 215, Junior
Talmage, Utah/Altamont HS/College of Eastern Utah

At College of Eastern Utah: Averaged 12.2 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.0 assist per game last year for coach Brian Zollinger’s Golden Eagles when he was named honorable mention all-SWAC. Led team in rebounding – ranking third in the Scenic West Conference – paced the team and the league with a .686 field goal percentage and blocked a team-high 45 shots, which was second-best in the conference. He also picked off 41 steals to rank second on the team and ninth in the league. Averaged 5.2 points and 6.8 rebounds per game as a freshman. Best games were a 29-point, 13-rebound effort against Dixie State and a 19-point, 17-rebound outing against Southern Idaho.

At Altamont High School: A two-time first-team all-state selection for Coach Mickey Fielsted. Averaged 24 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks per game as a senior when he was named AHS Athlete of the year as well as earning the school’s basketball Player of the Year honor for the second straight season. Best game was a 38-point, 15-rebound outburst against South Summit when he hit all 17 of his shots from the field. Also lettered in track & field, earning all-state honors in both the high jump, where he finished second, and on the state champion 4x100 relay team. Served as student body vice president.

Coach Evans On Tate: “Tate’s done a good job for us to this point. He’s a good athlete, he’s a good runner and jumper, a hard worker who is willing to please. He’s also very mature. Tate is a guy who will score the ball without getting it thrown to him. He’s a little bit of a throw-back, that’s one of the reasons I like him.”
