Austin Ainge

Austin AingeBrigham Young ‘07
First Year At Southern Utah

Austin Ainge is in his first season with the Thunderbirds and his first as a member of the collegiate coaching fraternity. Coach Ainge’s assignments with the Thunderbirds will include working with the perimeter players, scouting and recruiting as well as helping with on-the-floor coaching.

A four-year basketball letterman at Brigham Young University, Coach Ainge was a two-year team captain and was twice named honorable mention all-Mountain West Conference. During the 2006-07 season he led the MWC in 3-point field goal percentage and was one of the best three-point shooters in the nation.  Coach Ainge brings the experience of winning and leadership, having won two conference championships, participated in three NCAA tournaments and one NIT tournament appearance.

Coach Ainge grew up in Gilbert, Ariz., where he was his conference’s MVP as a senior as well as a conference and region first-team performer at Highland High School.  Coach Ainge credits much of his success and basketball knowledge to practicing and playing with many great NBA players and coaches such as his father, Boston Celtics GM Danny Ainge, Steve Nash, Jason Kidd, Charles Barkley, and many more.

A 2007 graduate of Brigham Young University, with a degree in sociology, Coach Ainge and his wife Crystal are the parents of a son, Andre, with another due this basketball season.
