Sam Hoopes

Sam HoopesF, 6-5, 215, Fr
Duchesne, Utah/Duchesne HS

At Duchesne High School: A three-time first-team all-state performer for Coach Stan Young’s Eagles. Averaged 22.9 points, 12 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.6 steals per game his senior season. Helped his basketball team to two region titles. Also lettered in football and track & field, earning all-state honors in football three times as well. Was a high honor roll student. Was recruited by the football programs at Stanford, Oregon, Colorado and Washington as a tight end.

Coach Reid On Sam: “Sam was an outstanding high school player in basketball, football and track and field. He had chances to sign Division I football scholarships out of high school and he had other basketball offers, so we feel very fortunate to get Sam. He’s a player who can play inside and outside, and I think he has a lot of potential as a freshman. He’s a very good inside player for his size and he also has a nice midrange jump shot. It’s just a matter of him gaining maturity and learning to play at this level. He needs to work on his ballhandling so he can play out away from the basket, and his perimeter defense, but Sam has a lot of potential.”
