The list is made up of 18 men and 13 women, including cross country and track athletes. “This group of athletes all have a great deal of potential,” Houle said of the signing class. “They will help us continue to have a presence at the conference and regional level.” Among the cross country recruits, Southern Utah brings in Ryan Barrus a ninth-place finisher at the Utah state competition, John Hart, a Cedar City native and 3A state champion as a junior and top-26 place finisher as a senior. Stuart Roskelley was just ahead of Hart last year, finishing 22nd at the state championships. On the women’s side, Katrina Lee will bring an individual cross country title from the state of Arizona and join Kindal Erickson from Cedar High School who finished 12th at the state championships in Utah. They will be joined by Steffi Minson and Joana Crowther to round out the cross country signings. The track and field signees are highlighted by 2004 3A state javelin champion Jordan Meacham, coming off an LDS mission; 5A state long jump champion Daney Nelson and 2A Nevada state champion in the 400-meters Christina Day. Other top performers include Demetrius Bailey (second in state of Arizona in the 400-meters), Solomon Bennett (second in the state of Nevada in the 1,600-meter and third in the 800-meters), Jared Beukers (second in the state of Utah in the pole vault), Adam Garcia (second in the state of Nevada in the 400-meters and third in the 300-meter hurdles), John Lee (fourth in state of Utah in the mile – 3A) and international recruit Cameron Levins who ranks in the top-10 in the 1,500-meters among juniors in Canada. Top finishers on the women’s side are made up of Haley Bice (fourth in the state of Nevada in the 100-meters) and Neosha Smith (fifth in the state of Nevada in the 100-meters and sixth in the 200-meters). The list also includes five other athletes that rounded out the top five in their given events on the state level. The cross country signees will have their first taste of intercollegiate action when the Thunderbirds open the season on the road at Idaho State on September 1.
