2007 Weekly Release 11/16/07 CEDAR CITY, Utah, Nov. 12 – Southern Utah University’s Sharla Platt has qualified for the NCAA championship cross country meet, scheduled for Monday, Nov. 19, in Terre Haute, Ind. Platt, a junior from Enterprise, Utah, earned her at-large spot in the national meet by virtue of her 18th-place finish at the Mountain Regional meet this past Saturday. Platt finished the 6,000-m Mountain Regional in a time of 21:27.5 to earn Southern Utah’s first spot at the NCAA cross country championships on the women’s side. “I think for this young lady to qualify for the NCAA championships speaks volumes for all the athletes who might not be highly recruited about what can happen with hard work and dedication,” SUU cross country coach Eric Houle said. “Sharla worked very hard to make this happen. “This is great for the university, great for the program and great for Sharla,” he went on to say. “I look forward to having her represent us on the national stage.” Platt is the only qualifier for the NCAA championships from the Summit League this year. The championship race is scheduled to be broadcast live on CSTV, Nov, 19, beginning at 12:55 eastern time. It is being hosted by Indiana State University at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course.
