THREE THUNDERBIRDS EARN POSTSEASON ACCOLADES
CEDAR CITY, Utah – Nov. 8 – Southern Utah’s Kimly Anderson, Allison Goettsche and Jessica Heninger each collected postseason awards with the first round of the Summit League tournament slated to begin on Friday.
Anderson, a junior from Woods Cross, Utah, earned second-team all-Summit League honors after starting each of the Thunderbirds’ games this season on the defensive back line. She was one of only three athletes on the team to record a start in every game this season and accumulated three points on a goal and an assist.
Anderson’s goal on the year proved to be the game winner in the Thunderbirds’ 2-0 win over the Mastodons of IPFW.
Goettsche and Heninger were named to the Summit League’s all-newcomer team after solid freshmen campaigns. Both were solid contributions coming off the bench for the Thunderbirds this year with five points a piece on two goals and an assist.
Goettsche’s two goals during the year were key to SUU’s success in conference with the equalizing goal in Southern Utah’s ties to South Dakota State and Oral Roberts.
IPSON NAMED SUMMIT LEAGUE OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
CEDAR CITY, Utah – Nov. 5 – Southern Utah’s Shaley Ipson has been named the Summit League Offensive Player of the Week after a record-setting weekend against IUPUI and North Dakota State. It is the first honor for a Thunderbird soccer player this year and the second for Ipson in her career.
Ipson tied SUU’s single-game goal mark with two against IUPUI, including the game-winner to clinch a berth for the Thunderbirds in the Summit League playoffs. On Saturday, she tied the career mark at SUU with 13 goals with her game winner against North Dakota State to help SUU qualify as the No. 3 seed going into the tournament. Ipson also moved into second-place all-time in points at Southern Utah with her two-game flourish.
The Thunderbirds will hope to continue the team’s four-game winning streak as Southern Utah competes in the Summit League Tournament this weekend. SUU will take to the pitch against Oakland on Friday with the chance of moving on to the finals on Sunday. |
