Gitana Gotay is in her third season as assistant coach with the Thunderbird program. She will enter the year as a full-time assistant after having served as a graduate assistant coach during the previous two seasons.
Gotay completed a four-year playing career at the University of Miami (FL), at which she played outside midfielder and defender. She finished her career with four goals, including two game-winning tallies, and two assists. Gotay also played semi-professional soccer for the Utah Spiders from 2002-04 and helped lead them to the 2003 national championship.
Gotay, a native of Salt Lake City, played her prep soccer at Judge Memorial High School, where she tallied 24 career goals and seven assists, and was named team MVP and best offensive player in leading JMHS to the state 3A title game as a senior. She played for the Impact Soccer Club, which won the Holland Cup Championship. Gotay also played for the Fire Birds Soccer Club, which won the Utah State Cup title in 2001.
Gotay graduated with a degree in communication, with an emphasis in broadcast journalism, and criminology from Miami. She also recently completed her Master’s degree in communication at SUU in 2007. She is the daughter of Paul and Theresa Gotay and has one brother, Pablo. She is single and currently resides in Cedar City.
