Brian Stock, Head Coach
office: (435) 865-8513   E-mail: stock@suu.edu

Head Coach Brian StockHead Coach Brian Stock is in his seventh season as head coach of the Southern Utah University women’s soccer team and has led the team since the inception of the program in 2001. In his short tenure on the Thunderbird bench, Coach Stock has led SUU to three Mid-Continent Conference tournament bids, has seen 12 players earn all-Mid-Con honors, six more garner conference tournament accolades, and 60 players named academic all-conference.

Riding a high note from 2005, Stock continued to lead an offensive infused Southern Utah squad and broke school records in goals (26), assists (20), points (72) and goals per game (1.4) for a second consecutive year in 2006. The Thunderbirds also earned a berth in the Mid-Con Soccer Tournament on back-to-back years, entering as a third seed.

In 2005, Stock led SUU to its finest season to date as the Thunderbirds posted a program-best 7-4-6 overall record and finished with the second-best winning percentage in the Mid-Continent Conference (.588). The seven wins were the most in school history and the overall turnaround from the 2004 campaign (4-11-1) tied for the 18th-best turnaround in the nation. In addition, the Thunderbirds won four of their last five games to close the season and were unbeaten in 10 of their last 12 outings overall. For his efforts, Stock was named the Mid-Con Co-Coach of the Year.

Southern Utah’s success in 2005 resulted in the Thunderbirds shattering every school offensive record. SUU established new marks in goals scored (22), goals per game (1.29), assists (17), points (61), shots on goal (166) and corner kicks (67), while the club put up 295 shots to break the previous record of 192 set in the program’s first season in 2001. In addition, SUU’s defense broke school records in goals against average (0.86), goals allowed (16) and shutouts (6), which by far ranked the Thunderbirds as the Mid-Con leader in each category.

Before coming to SUU, Coach Stock, 34, spent three seasons as the assistant women’s soccer coach at Youngstown State, where he was also the director of athletic youth camps. During his tenure with the Penguins, he helped produce three all-Mid-Continent Conference selections, two all-Ohio players and 15 all-Mid-Con academic selections.

Coach Stock began his coaching career as an assistant men’s soccer coach at his alma mater, The University of Akron, from 1996-98 and helped lead the Zips to the Mid-American Conference title in 1997. While at Akron, he had the opportunity to work under one of the nation’s top coaches in Ken Lolla, currently the under-SUU Head Coach Brian Stock15 boys National Team coach. He was also active in coaching at the club level in both Akron and Youngstown.

Prior to beginning his coaching career, Coach Stock served as the Director of Soccer Programs for Athletes in Action Soccer Canada in Vancouver, B.C., from 1994 through 1996, and was responsible for directing youth camps, staff training, overseeing the operations of the semi-pro club and administration of international tours.

Coach Stock graduated Summa Cum Laude in Accounting at Akron in 1995, and earned a masters degree in Business Administration from UA in 1998. He played goalkeeper for four seasons on the Zips’ men’s soccer team and helped lead the team to a Mid-Con championship in 1991 and two MAC titles in 1993 and 1995. Stock also earned two MAC Commissioners Awards for academic excellence during his playing career. Stock also played for three seasons with the AIA Football Club, a semi-professional club in Vancouver, British Columbia, where he helped guide the team to a Pacific Coast Soccer League playoff berth in 1994. He was also named a PCSL all-star in 1996 and was rated as one of the league’s top goalkeepers in all three seasons.

Coach Stock hails from North Canton, Ohio, and is accredited with National and Advanced National Coaching Diplomas from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. He also served as a head age group coach in the Nevada Olympic Development Program. Coach Stock is also the founder and director of Thunderbird Soccer Schools and is the director of coaching for the Utah Rush Soccer Club. He and his wife, Dannon, are the parents two sons, Andrew (7) and Kaleb (5), and Sarah (2).
