SUU Softball Inks One

CEDAR CITY, Utah, Nov. 30 – Southern Utah University's five-time defending conference champion softball squad has signed one player to a national letter of intent during the early signing period. Jenavieve Purcell, an outfielder from Mt. San Antonio Junior College has signed to play with the Thunderbirds.
A native of La Puente, Calif., Purcell played one season at New Mexico State before transferring to Mt. SAC.

“The Thunderbird softball program is excited to announce the signing of transfer athlete, Jenavieve Purcell for the 2009 season,” SUU Coach Jodi Jackson said. “We've worked long a hard to bring this quality athlete to our team. Jen is going to be an impact athlete and a great character addition to our squad. Purcell has Division I experience from NMSU and has had the opportunity to develop her game experience in a championship level program at Mt. SAC, so we know that Jen's experience and commitment to the game is going to lead our team to stronger play.”

Purcell was named the Female Athlete of the Year her senior year at Nogales High School. A three time all-league honoree, she was named to the best offensive players list and twice named to the best defensive list for softball. She lettered four times in softball and three times in volleyball at NHS.
