Dean's Introduction

Photo: Dean Carl TemplinI can hardly believe that I am in my seventh year as Dean, originally of the College of Business, Technology and Communication, and now of the School of Business. I continue to be amazed at the tremendous quality and dedication of our faculty and the accomplishments of our students, some of which you will find highlighted in this newsletter. Accrediting organizations have commended us for our student focus and excellence in teaching and scholarly activity. One faculty member has been selected as one of 35 internationally to attend the prestigious Oxford Roundtable in England, and two of our faculty’s research has been cited by the Harvard Business Review. Our graduating seniors continue to achieve extraordinary performance on a national test of graduating business seniors.

We also have some exciting new developments. Our Hotel, Resort and Hospitality Management program is led by a new faculty member with extensive education and experience in the Hospitality area. The program is off and running and already has more than 20 majors. We have established an Alumni Advisory Board, which meets each year at homecoming. We have our first seven members and will be adding seven more this year. The Board is working to help us with fundraising and with mentoring our students. We are in the process of mediating our last classroom, so that now each room and lab has a computer, projector, DVD, video, and internet capabilities. We have two computer labs with high performance computers and the latest software. Plus, we are one of two buildings on campus with wireless internet capability throughout the building. We have instituted a Business Speaker Series where we expose our students to business leaders in a variety of fields. Recently we have had visits by David Neeleman (CEO of JetBlue), Dick Hynes (Senior Vice President for Alberto Culver) and John Shepanek (CEO of Oil Can Henry’s).

We need your active support to help our school achieve even higher levels of excellence. Please consider signing up as a mentor on The Alumni Mentoring Network. You can limit the amount of contacts you will receive to the time you have available. If you are able, please contribute to our scholarship and technology funds to help us continue to produce highly qualified graduates. If your employer matches contributions, you can double your contribution. Please enjoy the newsletter and accept our gratitude for being such outstanding alumni.
