Industry Expert Leads SUU's New Business Program:
Hotel Resort & Hospitality Management
The Hotel Resort & Hospitality Management program (HRHM) opened its classroom doors in August of 2003 at SUU. The (HRHM) program has been anticipated at SUU for several years, and now it has become a wonderful reality.
The Hotel Resort & Hospitality Management program is led by Professor Emmett Steed. Emmett received an MBA from Thunderbird and then pursued a successful 25 year career in the Hotel & Resort Industry, where he achieved the position of Vice President of Operations for Promus Hotels. Afterwards, he obtained a Ph.D. in Resort & Hospitality Management from the University of Nevada Las Vegas, and subsequently joined SUU’s School of Business faculty in 2003.
Steed explains that the Resort & Hospitality Management Industry makes up 12 percent of the world-wide work force, and there is a specific demand in Southern Utah for individuals with Resort & Hospitality Management education and work experience, which is what Southern Utah University’s new program provides. The new HRHM program consists of 37 major credit hours, 18 minor credit hours, and 750 required hours of work experience.
We expect the (HRHM) program to continue to open many doors for our students and the community alike, and we look forward to the continuous advancement of the program.
