Dear SUU/SUSC ROTC Alumnus;
The SUU ROTC is in full swing, and we are excited to announce the creation of the SUU ROTC Alumni Association. The SUU ROTC cadets have had great success in the past and now in the present. From the years 1989 to 1991 and 1999 to present, SUU ROTC has commissioned several outstanding Lieutenants into the U.S. Army.
As we embark on a new training year, SUU’s ROTC is looking for ways to network alumni with the cadets and the ROTC program. Also, as you know, funding of extra-curricular projects and events cost money that the U.S. Army does not provide, but these projects and events, like the Ranger Challenge program are needed. Having the Alumni contribute both financially and through association will provided needed funds and experience to employ a professional ROTC and help fund a competitive Ranger Challenge program.
In the past three years SUU’s ROTC Ranger Challenge has competed in the 3 rd Brigade’s Ranger Challenge competition held at Fort Hunter Leggett, California. In 2000, SUU competed for the first time and won the small school category and placed 2 nd overall. In 2001, SUU won the small school category and placed 1 st overall, capturing the 2001 Golden Bear Brigade Trophy and beating the likes of BYU, U of U, UCLA, USC and 22 other western United States ROTC programs. SUU hoped to repeat in 2002, but ended up taking 5 th overall.
Your donations to the program will be a tremendous help in purchasing supplies and equipment needed for the team in the future.
Now, what do you receive for your donation and membership? First of all, the satisfaction of commissioning from a proud and professional ROTC. Secondly, a semi-annual newsletter keeping you up to date on all the latest alumni, their interests, and what’s happening on campus with the SUU ROTC. Also, your donations are tax deductible. In addition, a cash donation of at least $50.00 will pay for you and your significant other’s attendance at the Military Ball and dinner. Lastly, your donations are going towards helping SUU ROTC maintain its Ranger Challenge Team and offset the costs of other events like the ROTC 5K and the Dining-Out.
In conclusion, on behalf of the SUU ROTC Cadre, let me say thanks for your help and support. We hope to maintain the strong professional reputation that SUU ROTC has had in the past and look forward to training the future leaders of the U.S. Army.
