Master Sergeant Michael Drew Glad was born June 7, 1966 in Granger, Utah. He graduated from Alta High in Sandy Utah in 1984. MSG Glad graduated from Columbia College with a BA in Business Administration in the fall of 2004 and received his Masters in Business Administration in the fall of 2007 from Touro University.  MSG Glad enlisted in the Army National Guard and was assigned to HHD 1st Battalion 19th Special Forces Group (Airborne) (SFG(A)) in 1983. He attended Army Basic Training during the summer of 1984 at Ft. Jackson, South Carolina, Advanced Individual Training (AIT) at Ft. Gordon Georgia, where he graduated with honors as a Telecommunications Center Operator 72E10 now 74C10. That fall he also attended the US Army Airborne School in Ft. Benning Georgia.

In September 1990, MSG Glad became an Active Guard Reserve (AGR) enlisted soldier with the Utah Army National Guard in the position of Communications NCO within the Group Support Company (GSC) 19th SFG(A). In January 1992, MSG Glad was then assigned as the Unit Training NCO/Platoon SGT for GSC 19th SFG(A). In August 1997 he was reassigned to 1/19th SFG (A) as the Air operations/NBC NCO in the operations shop of the Battalion.  In June 1999 MSG Glad was reassigned to The Readiness NCO/Platoon SGT for Battalion Support Company (BSC) 1/19th SFG(A).  In January 2002 MSG Glad assumed the position as Assistant Operations NCO for the 300th Military Intelligence Brigade (Linguist).

MSG Glad has completed several military schools, which include: Army Basic Training, MOS schools, (72E, 31C, 54B, and 92Y), US Army Airborne School, Unit Training NCO Course, Unit Readiness NCO Course, Primary Leadership Development Course (PLDC), Telecommunications Operator Basic Non Commission Officers Course (Honor Graduate), Data Communications Advanced Non Commissioned Officer Course, US Army Special Operations Jumpmaster Course, US Army Air Assault School.

His awards and decorations include Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Achievement Medal (with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Good Conduct Medal (with three Loops), Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal (with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster), National Defense Service Medal (with Star Device), NCO Development Ribbon (with three Device), Army Service Ribbon, US Army Master Parachute Badge, US Army Air Assault Badge,  Army Reserve Overseas Training Ribbon (With 2 Device), Utah National Guard Commendation Medal, Utah National Guard Achievement Ribbon (with one device), Utah National Guard Recruiting ribbon, Utah National Guard Emergency Ribbon, Royal Thailand Marine Parachute Badge, Royal Thailand Army Parachute Badge.

MSG Glad is married to the former Kathleen Covington of Lehi, Utah and has four children.
