SFC Johnson was born May 20, 1968 in Kalispell, Montana. He grew up in Payson, Utah. SFC Johnson enlisted in the United States Army in January of 1986 and attended Combat Engineer One Station Unit Training at Fort Leonard wood, Missouri. His first duty assignment was with the 3rd Armored Division in Germany, stationed in Hanau with the 23rd Combat Engineer Bn. While assigned he performed as an Armored Personnel Carrier Driver and Team Leader. In May, 1989 SFC Johnson was re-assigned to the 25th Infantry Division (Light) “Tropic Lightning”. He was stationed at Schofield Barracks, Oahu in Hawaii with the 65th Combat Engineer Battalion (light). He performed duties as 12B Squad Leader, Mine Master, Demolition Master, Bn Air Ops NCO and Rappel Master, Weight Control NCO, and Master Fitness Trainer. He left Active Duty in 1993 and became a Police Officer in Utah County. In 1998 he went to Nephi Police where he was the Narcotics Detective and the Juab County/Nephi City Narcotics Task Force Commander. He received the Utah Narcotics Officers Association “Citation of Honor” in 2002. He joined the Utah Army National Guard in Dec, 2002 and was activated and deployed to Iraq a little over a month later. SFC Johnson deployed to Operation Iraqi Freedom with the 1457th Engineer Battalion (Combat) as a Squad Leader and was in Baghdad, Iraq from April, 2003 to May, 2004. While deployed he was the Army Engineer Association 2003 “Squad Leader of the Year”. After his return from Iraq he gave up his badge and came back to Active Duty as an Army National Guard Recruiter. He was the 2006 Recruiting and Retention “Rookie of the Year”. |
SFC Johnson has completed several military schools which include; One Station Unit Training 12B, Combat Life Savers Course, Primary Leadership Development Course (PLDC), Close Quarter Marksmanship Course, Exercise Leader/Master Fitness Trainer Course, Air Assault School, Rappel Master School, Ranger Indoctrination Program, Sapper Leader Course Graduate, Basic Non-Commissioned Officer Course (12B/Active Component), and MOS School 79T. His awards and decorations include; Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal with “V” Device for Valor and 4/OLC, Army Achievement Medal w/4 OLC, Good Conduct Medal w/2 knots, National Defense Service Medal w/star, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal w/“M” Device, NCO Professional Development Ribbon w/“2”, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon w/”2”, Utah Army National Guard Achievement Ribbon, Army National Guard Recruiting ribbon, Combat Action Badge, Air Assault Badge, Sapper Tab, 1st AD Combat Patch. SFC Johnson is married to Crystal Westring of Nephi, Utah. They have four children; Brittney, Jesston, Chase and Trey. |
