SFC Peterson was born December 3, 1963 in Fargo, North Dakota. He graduated from Cedar City High School in 1982. SFC Peterson enlisted in the Utah Army National Guard January 20, 1981 and was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Battery 2 nd Battalion 222 nd Field Artillery in Cedar City. He attended Army Basic Training at Fort Dix, New Jersey and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Gordon, Georgia, where he graduated as a Wire Systems Installer 36K10, now 31L10.
In February 1985, SFC Peterson started a full-time career with the Utah Army National Guard working at Camp Williams, Utah. He worked in the Dining Facility, PLDC Training and Administration. In August of 1990 he became a recruiter for the Utah Army National Guard working out of Armory #1 on Sunnyside Ave., Salt Lake City, Utah. He recruited for HHB I Corps Artillery, SVC Btry 1/140 th FA and CO A 142 nd MI BN. From January 1995 to July 2004 SFC Peterson was assigned as the Recruiting and Retention NCO for HHB 2/222 nd FA in Cedar City and SVC Btry 2/222 nd FA in Beaver.
SFC Peterson has completed several military schools which include: Basic Combat Training, Advanced Individual Training, MOS schools, (31L, 92G, 71L, 73C, 00E, 79T), Unit Clerk Course, Master Fitness Trainer Course, Primary Leadership Development Course (PLDC), Basic Non Commissioned Officers Course (Active Component 71L) and Advanced Non Commissioned Officers Course (Active Component 71L).
His awards and decorations include the 2004 Chiefs 54 winner for Utah, Chiefs Honor Roll for Recruiting and Retention Excellence in 2000, the 1999 Secretary of Defense Recruiter of the year, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal w/2 OLC, Army Achievement Medal w/2 OLC, National Defense Service Medal w/Star, Good Conduct Medal w/4 Knots, NCO Professional Development Ribbon w/3, Army Service Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, w/X, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal, Utah National Guard Medal of Merit, Utah National Guard Commendation Medal, Army National Guard Master Recruiter Badge, and Army Career Counselor Badge.
SFC Peterson is married to Becky Reber from Cedar City, UT. They have three children, Amberley, Shawn, and Brennon and one grandson, Christian.
