Sam Slavens was born in Norman, Oklahoma May 3, 1967. She moved from Athens, Georgia to Cedar City with her family when she was 5. She grew up in Cedar City and graduated from Cedar High School.

Sam has spent time traveling and living in various places from California to Massachusetts, never expecting to return to Cedar City. But now that she is back, she can't imagine what took her so long to return.

In November of 1988, Sam married Ken Slavens of Page, Arizona. They have two children - Dean Alexander and Paisley Jane. They also have a fat, orange cat named Norman.

Sam joined the Cadre and Staff of Southern Utah University's ROTC program in December of 2004 where she works as the Department Secretary and loves her job!
