During the fall of 2002, Technology Education students were assigned the task of designing and fabricating an ATV trailer. The project included several design constraints. First, the trailer had to be capable of hauling 2 full size ATV’s. The trailer also needed some type of built in ramp allowing the ATV’s to be loaded and unloaded relatively easily. The slope of the loading ramp had to be low enough that an ATV could climb up it without high centering on the side of the trailer
Several different designs were considered before the final design was selected. Other designs allowed the ATV’s to be loaded and unloaded from the rear of the trailer. The final design was a trailer that would allow an ATV to be loaded and unloaded from the side of the trailer.
The trailer was built in a portion of the automotive facility. The trailer rests on a 2000 pound axle and suspension kit utilizing 13 inch tires.
The trailer was completed at the end of the fall 2002 semester. Technology Education students gained skills and expertise in the area of welding and fabrication.
Technology Education faculty members are delighted that the students were given this opportunity.
