On Tuesday, April 21, 2009, the Department of Technology at Southern Utah University will again sponsor our annual Technology Fair. Starting this year, the Integrated Engineering department will participate in the Technology Fair. Be sure to check the contest area link http://www.suu.edu/ciet/et/technology/techfair/contests.html for the new engineering and technology competition areas. Also new this year is the Fastest Computer Geek competition. See contest areas for further details. You are invited to bring your middle school, junior high school, and high school students, along with project work they have constructed, to this activity. We have made our Tech Fair letter available to more people by putting it on the Internet. Please see our web pages with contest details and specifications, http://www.suu.edu/ciet/et/technology/techfair/ . And please circulate this letter among your vocational teachers.
Make as many copies of the entry tags as you like for your needs. It will be to your advantage to have each student fill out the tags prior to their arriving at the University Multipurpose Center. Check each tag to insure the student has the correct academic grade for each project entry and category.
Please be aware that the contests begin at 9:00 a.m. in the areas designated on the attached page (this is a change from previous year's locations) and the awards program will begin at 12:30 p.m. in the Sharwan Smith Center . We hope this earlier time will permit you to attend.
As a new addition to our activities held at the Technology Fair, we have scheduled time to hold a cardboard boat race . If you would like to have your students participate, direct them to http://www.suu.edu/ciet/et/technology/boats/ for specifications. All boats must be completed before arriving on campus. No boat construction of any kind will be allowed on campus.
REGISTRATION: It is imperative that schools preregister the names of all contestants and participants online at http://www.suu.edu/ciet/et/technology/techfair/registration-form.html by April 15 th . We will use this information to plan for materials and space.
CONTESTS: Following are Technology Fair contest areas and the lists of tools and materials each contest participant is expected to bring are available on our web pages. The University will supply all items needed except those listed. It would be a good idea to mark your tools for identification purposes and instruct your students that it will be their responsibility to keep track of them. The University cannot be responsible for individual tools. CONTESTANTS MUST BE ON TIME. We ask that instructors take an active role in seeing that your students are in the right place for contests, etc.
