Requirements Checklist and Syllabus
This handy checklist will help you keep track on your assignments for the UNIV2010 Convocations class
For the Convocation class you are graded on completed Reflection Forms. Forms must contain well articulated and thoughtful reflection to receive credit. There is a required reflection for for each Convocation Presentation and each of the additional four events described below.
Convocation Reflection Forms are available at Convocations. The additional four events you can download your form below. There are specific Reflection Forms for each type of event. Make sure you download the correct one. Turn in completed forms to theEmma Ecles Jones Education Building, Office #330 within two days of the event.
This semester we will closely track tardiness. For every two times that you are tardy you will lose credit for attending one convocation and will have to do a make up to get that credit back. Also, reflection sheets will not be accepted from those leaving Convocation early. Sheets must be turned in as students leave Convocation. No sheets will be accepted late.
If you miss any Convocation or any of the additional assignments, you can make it up by attending presentations of your choice from the Additional Speakers/Presentations list and turning in the "Make Up" Reflection Form. To have an event count that is not listed on the web site you must get permission in ADVANCE from Ray in the Provost's Office.
PLEASE NOTE: A maximum of four make-up assignments may be used in place of regular assignments. I will NOT accept more than four alternate assignments.
As an SUU student enrolled in the UNIV2010 course, it is expected that you will participate actively in the convocation series this semester and attend all activities. Students should show presenters proper respect and have stellar audience etiquette. Disruptive behavior will result in Reflection Forms not being accepted. In order to meet the requirements for 2010, a pass/fail class, you must follow the guidelines as explained on this site. You must complete and turn in reflection sheets for each presentation listed.
PLEASE NOTE: A maximum of four make-up assignments may be used in place of regular assignments. I will NOT accept more than four alternate assignments.
Students arriving late to Convocation, wishing to leave Convocation early, or handing in a Reflection Form late, will NOT receive full credit for that weeks' Convocation. Please be aware that you do not have to agree with a Convocation presenter, but you should always show them respect. Even the instructor may disagree with the Convocation presenter, which is fine. The theme of Convocations is A Feast of Ideas. Learning about new and exciting
Reflection forms should contain thoughtful and intelligent reflection worthy of a college student.
All Reflection Forms are due as noted on each sheet, but no forms will be accepted after 5 PM the last day of finals.
To receive a passing grade, each reflection sheet must be filled out completely, including your name. The reflection sheet must be handed in by the student whose name appears on the sheet and who physically attended the event.
Academic Integrity: Scholastic dishonesty will not be tolerated. Students should understand intellectual property and should have a clear understanding on what constitutes plagiarism. If you ever have any questions regarding these issues please consult with me.
Cell Phones/Pager: Please turn the ringer off on your cell phone or pager while in class. They are disruptive and thus inappropriate for use during class.
Emergency Management: In case of emergency, the University's Emergency Notification System (ENS) will be activated. Students are encouraged to maintain updated contact information using the link on the homepage of the mySUU portal. In addition, students are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the Emergency Response Protocols posted in each classroom. Detailed information can be found in the university's emergency management plan.
HEOA Compliance: The sharing of copyrighted material through peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing, except as provided under U.S. copyright law, is prohibited by law.
Students with medical, psychological, learning or other disabilities desiring academic adjustments, accommodations or auxiliary aids will need to contact the Southern Utah University Coordinator of Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD), in Room 206F of the Sharwan Smith Center or phone (435) 865-8022.
