Master’s of Education with Emphasis in Educational Leadership ( 42 Credits)

Utah Educational Administrative/Supervisory License Goals and Objectives:

1. To provide all Administrative/Supervisory candidates with a high quality, dynamic, and cutting edge curriculum in educational leadership that aligns with all ELCC standards.
2. To provide all Administrative/Supervisory candidates with current educational leadership theories, philosophies, and practices that promote administrative success in a variety of educational settings.
3. To provide all Administrative/Supervisory candidates with the knowledge, skills, and professional competencies necessary  to becoming critical and creative problem solvers, effective communicators, and visionary leaders in Utah’s public school settings.
4. To provide all Administrative/Supervisory candidates with meaningful internship opportunities in elementary, secondary, special education, district level, and community educational settings.

All Educational Administrative/Supervisory License Candidates must hold a current, valid teaching license.   Candidates are required to develop a collection of Professional Leadership Internship Artifacts as part of the candidate's Professional Portfolio.   Candidates will be required to take and pass the PRAXIS Educational Leadership Administration and Supervision Exam in preparation for State Licensure and be required to present and defend their Professional Work Sample, Leadership Portfolio, and Internship Artifact Log at a culminating interview.

        Courses to be taken in the following sequence:

Admission Procedure Master of Education with Educational Leadership Emphasis :

1. Candidates desiring admission to SUU's Graduate Studies in Education M.Ed. Program  must complete the official application    Online Version   and pay the $50.00 non-refundable application fee. 
2. SUBMIT ALL THE FOLLOWING IN ONE PACKAGE. (All application materials must be submitted in their entirety by the deadline dates. Candidates who do not submit all the required documentation by the deadline date will not be processed for admission into the program for that semester. All letters must be originals, no copies, faxes, or e-mails accepted.)

• A hand written statement expressing:
1. reasons the applicant wants to be admitted to the M.Ed Educational Leadership Program,
2. Why the applicatnt believes he/she can succeed in the program
• Verification of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
• Official transcript of all undergraduate and graduate studies. Transcripts must verify a minimum GPA of 3.25 on the last 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) of approved undergraduate/graduate coursework.

OR

A combination of minimum GPA 3.00 - 3.24 on the last 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) of approved undergraduate/graduate coursework and comparative scores on the Miller's Analogies Test (MAT) or the Verbal, Quanititative, and Analytical portions fo the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) as listed in the chart below.

• Submit a copy of a current, valid teaching license and verification of at least two (2) years of successful teaching or professional experience in an accredited private or public P-12 school.
• Submit three (3) letters of recommendation from school administrators/supervisors, assigned mentors or former/current college instructors. Emphasis to be placed on:   (1) perceived ability to perform academically at the graduate level e.g., communication and writing skills, research skills, leadership, work ethic;   (2) teaching experience and exceptionality;  (3)  collaboration and cooperation skills.
• Submit a letter from your school district or principal stating support for the needed release time to complete all internships.

In addition to the submission of admission documentation ALL candidates must attend a mandatory Graduate Studies Program Orientation before being officially admitted and taking classes.     Contact Debi Smith at smithd@suu.edu  or 435-865-8383 to reserve your seat for orientation.

General Information:

1. Courses assigned 5000 level numbers will not be accepted as part of the “Required M.Ed. Core." They may only be used as elective credit upon approval of the Office of Graduate Studies in Education.
2. The Master’s program must be completed within six years of continueous enrollement from the date of matriculation.
3. Upon admission all graduate students must maintain a 3.0 GPA. If a student's GPA falls below 3.0, the student will be revoked from the program and must submit a Student Appeals Application to seek readmission.
4. If a student misses more than two consecutive semesters, excluding summer session, the student must apply for readmission and is subject to the current catalog requirements.
5. Admission is on a provisional basis until candidate demonstrated mastery of the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary for a professional school administrator. Candidates must, also, be willing to be in compliance with school district dress and behavior codes, as well as, the Standards of Ethical Conduct of Utah Educators (USOE).
