PECC Committee Charges and
Responsibilities
Bylaws Committee
The purpose of the Bylaws Committeeis to review and recommend
revisions of the bylaws when needed. The Vice Chair of the PECC is an
ex-officio member of this committee. Specific responsibilities
include:
- Reviewing and recommending revisions of the PECC bylaws when
needed
- Working closely with other standing and ad hoc committees to
develop, review and revise policies and procedures for the
operation of the PECC
- Insuring the policies and procedures adopted by the PECC are
consistent with applicable University policies
- Developing and maintaining the PECC's Policies and Procedures
Manual
- The chair of the Bylaws Committee will serve as PECC
parlimentarian.
Program Review Committee
The purpose of the Program Review Committee is to examine review and
evaluate existing professional education programs and make
recommendations for deletions and/or additions of new courses or
program areas and innovations that might be incorporated in programs.
The committee recommendations are presented to the PECC and to the
Dean of COE for submission to the Deans' Council for final approval.
The Vice Chair of the PECC is an ex-officio member of this committee.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Working closely with the University Assessment Officer to
develop an assessment plan to assess the quality of
programs within the Unit on an annual basis.
- Developing a process for reviewing the curriculum of new and
existing courses to ensure that they address the Unit's conceptual
framework and applicable standards.
- Reviewing proposals for new courses and making recommendations
to the PECC
- Working closely with the ad hoc Committee on Candidate
Assessment and the Student Recruitment, Admission and Retention
Committee to assess candidate performance and make recommendations
for program changes and revisions as necessary.
- Working closely with the PEF Recruitment and Qualifications
Committee to assess the impact of PEF on positive program
outcomes.
PEF Recruitment and Qualifications Committee
The purpose of the PEF Recruitment and Qualifications Committee
is to (1) review plans, procedures, and resources for the recruitment
of a diverse professional education faculty and (2) certify that PEF
in the Unit and those faculty proposed for membership on the PEF meet
the qualifications stipulated in Standard 5 of the NCATE Unit
Standards or other standards contained in the PEF Policy Manual. The
committee's recommendations are presented to the PECC and to the Dean
of the COE for final approval. The Vice Chair of the PECC is an
ex-officio member of this committee. Specific responsibilities
include:
- Developing a faculty recruitment plan which insures a diverse
and highly qualified Professional Education Faculty
- Developing a screening process and reviewing faculty
qualifications of PEF to insure that they meet the qualifications
stipulated in Standard 5 of the NCATE Unit Standards or other
standards contained in the PEF Policy Manual
- Developing a professional development plan for PEF to create
an active community of learners and provide opportunities for
professional growth
- Working with the ad hoc Committee on Field Experiences and
Clinical Practice to insure that clinical faculty meet the
qualifications stipulated in Standard 5 of the NCATE Unit
Standards
- Developing a process for participating in hiring and LRT
decisions involving PEF
Student Recruitment, Admission and Retention
Committee
The purpose of the Student Recruitment. Admissiona and Retention
Committee is to (1) review plans, procedures, and resources for the
recruitment of students and make recommendations to the PECC: (2)
review and evaluate university admission requirements to enter the
professional education program and make recommendations to the PECC;
and (3) coordinate with the COE Professional Practices Committee to
insure that applicants who have been admitted to professional
education programs are suitable to remain in these programs. The Vice
Chair of the PECC is an ex-officio member of this committee. Specific
responsibilities include:
- Developing a candidate recruitment plan which insures a
diverse and highly qualified cadre of professional education
candidates.
- Working with the Ad Hoc Committee on Candidate Assessment to
develop and implement a Candidate Assessment Plan
- Developing a screening and review process to track progress of
candidates in the professional education program and make
recommendations regarding admission, retention and dismissal at
critical decision points
- Developing a professional growth plan process whereby students
refused admission or dismissed from the program may acquire the
necessary knowledge, skills and dispositions for entry or
readmission into the program.
- Developing guidelines and procedures for implementing and
assessing a candidate professional portfolio system
Student Appeals Committee
The purpose of the Student Appeals Committee is to hear appeals
of students denied admission to professional education or student
teaching or who have been removed from these programs. The
committee's recommendations are presented to the PECC and to the Dean
of COE for final approval. The Vice Chair of the PECC is an
ex-officio member of this committee. Specific responsibilities
include:
- Developing and implementing an appeals process to support and
enhance the operation of the College of Education's Professional
Practices Committee
- Implementing professional growth plans for students who are
denied admission or retention and following-up the progress of
students participating in these plans
- Maintaining records of admission, retention and dismissal
actions
