As the second part of University 1010 at Southern Utah University, Welcome Week includes activities specifically designed to help new students transition to life as a member of the SUU community. We know there is much more to feeling comfortable, connected and confident in yourself, your environment and your studies than just attending class; therefore, our faculty, staff, and upper-class students will be on hand to make your transition to the University as smooth and enjoyable as possible. This required program will also be a great way to meet lots of new people, especially other members of the class of 2012.
Welcome Week begins at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 (see schedule below) and continues through Saturday, August 23. Classes begin on Monday, August 25, 2008.
Students who have not signed up for a meal plan nor placed money on their One Card account for meal purchases throughout the week are encouraged to do so before Welcome Week begins.
If you have purchased a meal plan, your student ID card serves as your meal card. Just present your card to the cashier as you enter the dining hall. S/he will swipe your card which deletes one meal from your plan.
If you deposited money on your card prior to or during orientation, that money is available immediately upon receipt of your ID card (issued on Thursday morning at the Academics 1010 session). You are encouraged to use your One Card dollars to eat with other first year students in the dining hall throughout the week.
If you would like to add money to your card, stop by the Cashier’s Office located in the Rotunda of the Sharwan Smith Center. Hours of operation are:
8:00 am - 4:00 pm Monday through Friday.
NOTE: The following meals will be complimentary:
-
Thursday, August 21 breakfast and lunch
-
Friday, August 22 lunch
The President and Mrs. Benson will also host a dessert buffet at their home on Sunday night, August 24 that is complimentary for first year students.
First-year residential students are expected to move- in on Wednesday, August 20. Residence Life staff will be ready and waiting for you to arrive beginning at 8:00 am. If you need to arrive prior to August 20, please contact University Housing at 435-586-7966 or housing@suu.edu to request permission. For athletes arriving to campus early, specific move-in information should be provided to you by your coach.
Welcome Week programming fulfills the course requirements associated with University 1010. This program is required for all first year students. Students needing an exception to this requirement must send an email to the Vice President for Student Services, Donna Eddleman at eddleman@suu.edu. Typically, military service (with documented orders) is the only exception granted.
We look forward to seeing you and welcoming you to the T-Bird family!
