Lambert-Margetts Duo In Recital

Southern Utah University, Cedar City, Utah: A recital that celebrates the piano and trumpet will be featured at Southern Utah University when the Lambert-Margetts Duo performs in a free concert for the Department of Music. The concert is scheduled for Friday, January 18, 2013 and will be performed at Thorley Recital Hall in SUU’s Music Building. The performance is free and open to the public and begins at 7:30pm.

Dr. Adam Lambert, trumpet, is currently in his first year in the Department of Music faculty as Director of Bands and Brass Studies at Southern Utah University. For the past seven years, he has directed the band and brass programs at Chadron State College in Nebraska, where he conducted the Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, and Athletic Bands and coordinated the brass studio. He was the director of bands at Provo High School in Provo, Utah, from 1997 to 2002, and was awarded a Teaching Fellowship at UNT from 2002 to 2005. He holds degrees in music education from Brigham Young University and a doctorate in trumpet performance from the University of North Texas (UNT). Dr. Lambert has given clinics and guest-conducted at many events, colleges, and universities throughout the western and Midwestern United States. As an active trumpet educator, performer, and clinician in both classical and jazz, Adam performed and recorded with the University of North Texas Wind Symphony on the series Teaching Music through Performance. Furthermore, he has performed as a professional jazz musician at many major jazz festivals, including the Snow Bird Jazz Festival, the Park City Jazz Festival, and the Salt Lake City Jazz Festival. As a trumpet soloist and an active member of the Nebraska Arts Council, he has given performances at many colleges and universities throughout the Midwest, including the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Wayne State College, the University of Wyoming, Northwest College, and Colorado State University. Dr. Lambert is a Bach trumpet artist and clinician for the Conn-Selmer Corporation.

Dr. James Margetts, piano, is Associate Professor of Music at Chadron State College in northwestern Nebraska, where he teaches courses in applied and class piano, piano pedagogy, music theory, and music history. A native of Utah, he began piano studies with Melba Hoyt at the age of six. He holds a baccalaureate degree in piano performance and pedagogy from Brigham Young University, where he was a pupil of Paul Pollei. He completed graduate studies in piano performance at the University of Cincinnati College–Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of pianists Frank Weinstock, Michael Chertock, and James Tocco. Margetts has appeared as both soloist and collaborative artist at venues across the United States, including recent performances on the Concerts on the Platte and Temple Square concert series. He has also performed internationally in Australia, Mexico, and Japan. He is featured on Tantara Records’ Four American Horn Sonatas with BYU hornist Laurence Lowe. He currently tours and performs with trumpeter Adam Lambert as the Lambert-Margetts Duo, and plays keyboard with the Chadron State Professors of Jazz. Before his appointment to the Chadron State faculty, Dr. Margetts taught at Millikin University and Aims Community College and was a staff accompanist at Brigham Young University. In addition to his college teaching, he maintains a small independent teaching studio in Chadron. He holds national certification through Music Teachers National Association and is an active member of several state associations. He is also a licensed Musikgarten instructor.
