Southern Utah University, Cedar City, Utah: Whimsical, colorful, and graphic are apt words to describe Kimberly Harris’ multi-media paint and design work. As a Zion National Park Artist-in-Residence and the featured artist at SUU’s Department of Art & Design’s weekly series, Art Insights, Harris will be sharing her experiences and work with students. The presentation will take place in Section JK of SUU’s Centrum Arena on Thursday, September 26, 2013, at 7pm. Admission is free and the general public is invited to attend.
Kimberly Harris’ art and architectural work are inspired by her travels and passion for the outdoors. Her manipulation of vibrant colors and playful composition has led to numerous exhibitions throughout Arizona art galleries over the past 24 years. In addition to opening her design studio which incorporates art, architecture, and interior design, Harris has contributed work to the Prescott Jazz Sung Blues Festival, Cool Desert Jazz Festival, the Fun Factory in Yuma, Arizona.
Harris’ devotion to the creative process is demonstrated by her mastery of a variety of mediums and disciplines, such as glass and tile mosaic, welded murals, paints, interior design, and architecture. Her varied skills led to her selection as a 2013 Zion National Park Artist in Residence from September 3rd through September 30th. The Artist in Residence program offers professional artists the opportunity to live and work in the majestic desert environment of southern Utah. The works completed under this program will contribute to the public understanding and appreciation of Zion National Park and reflect the National Park Service’s mission to the preservation and protection of the park’s cultural and natural resources.
Art Insights is a weekly program hosted during the fall and spring semesters by SUU’s Art and Design faculty. Students and community members meet to experience presentations and discussions by visiting artists and art educators from around the nation who share their work and insights and attend gallery openings.
