Statement: Personal Work

The focus of my work has been on the landscape and figure. I work primarily with pastel because I enjoy the immediacy and flexibility of the medium. My recent painting concentrates on communicating my observations of the natural world, to give insight into human behavior, and address human interaction with, and impact upon, the environment.

Statement: Teaching

In drawing classes I strive to teach students observation skills, drawing fundamentals and principles of composition. As they progress, students are challenged to select, modify and create images, symbols, and designs to visually communicate their thoughts.

In art education classes I prepare future art teachers through study and application of successful teaching strategies and art curriculum development. Students learn methods of integrating studio production, aesthetics, art criticism, and art context in the classroom.
