Property Insurance

If you are single and living at home, ask your parents for permission to read and evaluate their homeowner’s insurance policy. Do you think your parents should update their policy? Does it include the necessary coverages in proper amounts?

If you are single and renting, see if your are covered under your parents homeowners plan for property insurance in your apartment or dorm. If you are covered, for how much? What do you need to do or have to submit a claim? Is it replacement value or actual cash value?

If you are married and renting, without renter's insurance, evaluate your need for such coverage.  If you already have renter’s insurance, read through your policy to make sure you are in compliance and update your home inventory.

If you own your own home, read through your homeowner’s policy and make sure it is still sufficient coverage. As your home increases in value, your homeowner’s insurance should change as well.

In one to two paragraphs, explain your situation and what information you found.
