Professional Information

Charles W. (Bill) Douglas is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Nursing at Southern Utah University (SUU). Bill received his initial degree, a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing, at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) in 1996. He earned his Master’s of Science in Nursing from the University of Phoenix in 2006.

Bill recently retired from the United States Army where he served a total of 20 years. He served as an enlisted soldier for 8 years; most of which was as a Combat Medic. He then earned his degree as well as his commission as an Army Nurse Corps officer (via ROTC) in 1996. Bill’s distinguished military career saw him earning many decorations in both peacetime and combat tours of duty. These decorations included Meritorious Service and Army Commendation Medals and the highly prestigious Expert Field Medical Badge.

Besides Bill’s Registered Nurse licensure and academic degrees, he is certified and served over 10 years as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Specialist. The last 2 years (of that 10 year period) was as a Nurse Manager of a 16 bed inpatient psychiatric specialty unit. Bill’s initial nursing experience was as a staff nurse on medical-surgical units for 2 years.

Bill has had certifications in the past with the National Organization for Victim’s Assistance (NOVA) and the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation (ICISF) for performing crisis intervention and critical incident stress debriefings. He is also a current member of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA).
