Text :                  Calculus, 8-th ed., by Anton, Bivens and Davis.

Prerequisites: Calculus I with at least a C

Course Fee: $10 (funds the Student Support Center – TAs, graders and periodic software updates)

Course Description: A continuation of Math 1210. Inverse trigonometric functions; techniques of integration; further applications of the definite integral; improper integrals and indeterminate forms; infinite series; conic sections and topics in analytic geometry; polar coordinates and parametric equations. A graphing calculator is required.

 

Objectives: 

  • Learn techniques of integration.
  • Solve simple differential equations.
  • Discuss sequences and infinite series including Taylor series.
  • Learn techniques of analytic geometry.

 

Homework: Homework assignments are listed on the next pages of this syllabus. I will collect weekly assignments on the following Tuesday.  Late unexcused homework will not be accepted.

Grading:                Homework:         50 points (5 pts each, lowest 2 or 3 assignments  

                                                                            dropped)

                               Quizzes:              100 points (20 pts each, lowest 2 quizzes dropped)

                               In-Class Exams:  300 points

                               Final Exam:        150 points (cumulative)

Attendance:   Students are expected to attend all class meetings and are responsible for

all of the material covered.  Students who miss a class meeting should copy a classmate’s

notes for that meeting. Also, there will be no “make–up” exams and quizzes. Unless a

valid excuse is presented in advance, a missed exam will receive the score 0.    Students

must look at this syllabus carefully and plan well ahead.
