About Professor Johnston:Dr. Johnston was a police office for many years in the Detroit, Michigan metropolitan area. His assignments included: Patrol, Undercover Operations, Motorcycle Officer, Detective Division Investigator, and Fatal Accident Investigator and Reconstructionist. Following his retirement from professional policing, he became the Chief of Police for Missouri Southern State University, Joplin, Missouri. Dr. Johnston returned to his educational desires and earned his Associate and Bachelor degrees in Criminal Justice from Missouri Southern State University, his Master of Science in Justice Studies and Doctorate of Public Administration from Arizona State University (1994).

Dr. Johnston began his teaching profession at Arkansas State
University and later moved to the University of Texas system to teach. At
the University of Texas he became the Director of Criminal Justice On-Line
Studies and helped develop a four year on-line Criminal Justice Completion
degree. He retired from the University of Texas system in 2007. Dr.
Johnston joined Southern Utah University as a member of the Political
Science and Criminal Justice Department in the Fall ’07 term. He teaches in
both the Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and the Master of Public
Administration programs.
