Centers

1.)  Art CenterÑ

There will be clay and pictures of the 7 continents.  The students will shape a continent of their choice out of the clay by looking at the picture.

2.)  Reading CenterÑ

There will be a short paragraph for the students to read and answer questions.  These questions will include the names of the continents and could even show a compass for the students to learn direction.

3.)  Memory Game and Patterns CenterÑ

The students will be using a computer at this center.  Log the students on to the national geographic website (nationalgeographic.com).  Have students click on ÒFun for KidsÓ.  Then click on ÒGamesÓ.  Show them how to scroll down until they reach ÒGeography GamesÓ.  Then they will click on the 1st one labeled ÒCopycat: Continents Memory GameÓ.  The students will play this game to help learn where the continents are located, what each one looks like, and to help develop patterns and computer skills.

4.)  Listening CenterÑ

Have headphones set up with a book-on-tape.  The students will listen to a short passage introducing different cultures we will soon discuss.

5.)  Climate CenterÑ

The students will appropriately match pictures of different clothing items to the proper climate areas of the continents.
