Children will take a piece
of paper and fold it accordion style. Each page of the book will present a new
concept in the class. The students will analyze character, plot, conflict, and
other parts of the story on a separate page of the book. Below is an example of
how we would have students do the book James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl.
Front Back

Page 1: Front cover,
students will decorate a front cover to what they want on it. Students will put
the authors name and title of the book on the cover.
Page 2: James Journal in
England. Students will read the first few chapters and write about how James
feels before the trip. This is a diary entry for the students to make up what
they wish would happen.
Page 3:Travel log. This page
is for students to keep track of the happenings of the travel. Students may do
this on a map, or as a timeline.
Page 4: Back cover. Students
will design as they seem fit and place their name on the back to let the
teacher know who made the book.
Page 5: Vocabulary. Students
will place vocabulary words around a peach. They will find the words in the
book and we will look them up as a class.
Page 6: Students will choose
one character from the book and write that characters feelings. They are limited
that they cannot choose James but any other character will work (Even the
Peach).
Page 7: Journal in NYC. Now
the trip is over the students can choose a character and tell how the character
likes and does in NYC,
Page 8: Summery of the whole
story in a short paragraph or so. This is like a book review and report to give
your ideas and opinions of the book. They must support their idea though.

Character Books
Students take each character
and make a small book to be placed in their larger book as a character summery.
This only needs to include about a line or two about the character.
