Manipulatives
When students are reading
a book they are given an object in the book that they can just play with. The
students can do as they please with the object. For example in the book James
and the Giant Peach By Roald Dahl the students are given a peach and they may
eat it, feel it, drop it, and make it land on the empire state building model.
They have to however find the pit in the center.

When students finish a
book they make a replica of a favorite character. The character must resemble
the character in the book almost word for word. The student can use paper mache
or any material that the teacher provides. If doing the Wizard of Oz the
student may make a character of the scarecrow with yarn and fabric.
