Venues For Students To Share Their Work

*Remember, an important part of a student’s learning is sharing their work. Student’s need a safe, comfortable, friendly place to display and share what they have created. Ideas based on Utah Core Curriculum Requirements for 3rd Grade

Some ideas…

1.    Have an “Ask-The-Expert” day. Each student will be the featured “expert” and will share their themed story, poem, etc. to the entire group-- showcasing their hard work and knowledge. Fellow students can ask questions and the “expert” will offer answers. Emphasis on speaking with clarity and correct expression will be important.

2.    Establish a writing and publishing area where ideas can be generated. Furnish it with tables, chairs, writing tools, paper, markers, crayons, scissors, and tape. An old typewriter or a computer with age appropriate word-processing software would be a great addition. Access to informational text such as newspapers, magazines, reference books, etc. will help foster ideas. Students will be encouraged to write and compose here, as well as have peer and teacher conferences. Learning to give and receive constructive criticism is important. This area will give significance to their writing.

3.   Displays throughout the classroom can be constituted of student writings and changed frequently to give each child “public exposure” of their works. Promoting and displaying student work helps to foster a great sense of pride and ownership in their accomplishments.
